Cardano Vision 2026

Input Output Global
Global IO holding

The Cardano Vision 2026 research roadmap outlines 15 key initiatives across six core technical pillars. Developed by a global academic consortium, the program drives multi-layer scalability (via Leios and Peras), cross-chain zero-knowledge (ZK) tooling, decentralized identity, and verified governance models. Its primary strategic defense is a bottom-up post-quantum cryptography (PQC) framework designed to preemptively swap out core consensus primitives for quantum-secure alternatives.

The Consensus team improved Mithril integration for snapshot exports, while Lace Carbon began internal testing. For scaling, Hydra v2.2.0 launched with upgraded benchmarks, and Mithril finalized recursive SNARK verification. Under Voltaire, the Constitutional Committee election became competitive with five candidates for four seats, with DRep voting starting June 23. The Research team advanced its Cardano Vision 2026 workstreams.

Cardano upgrade: van Rossem hard fork

Intersect
Member based organization

The van Rossem hard fork upgrade for the Cardano Mainnet has officially commenced. The process coordinates two distinct governance actions: a Plutus Cost Model parameter update (enacted on June 18) and the hard fork initiation action (submitted on June 16). Following successful testing on the Preview and Preprod testnets, the final decision to ratify and execute the upgrade now rests entirely with the on-chain governance bodies (DReps, SPOs, and the Constitutional Committee).

The High Assurance team launched a smart contract testing beta tool, while the Mithril team completed its SNARK-friendly genesis certificate and optimized recursive scaling primitives. Under Voltaire, a critical call for candidates was issued for the upcoming Constitutional Committee election to ensure a competitive process. Finally, the Research team had its Cardano Vision 2026 proposal officially ratified by the community with 74.96% DRep approval.

Cardano is connecting to all of crypto

Input Output Global

The LayerZero integration connects Cardano to the wider crypto economy, enabling over 800 tokens to move natively onto the network. These assets will benefit from Cardano's built-in ledger security and deterministic smart contracts. The rollout will proceed in phases through 2026 launching endpoints, the Stargate liquidity layer, and developer tools with the goal of supporting any asset by year-end.

Verifying Origins and Data on Cardano

Cardano Foundation
Not-for-profit organization

The Cardano Accelerator Program (CAP) is inviting subject matter experts to join its mentor network for the Fall 2026 cohort, themed Real-World Trust. Mentors will provide flexible, one-on-one guidance to startups focused on identity, traceability, and digital passports. This non-commercial engagement offers industry experts ecosystem-wide visibility in exchange for mentoring in strategy, compliance, or fundraising. Applications opened on June 5, 2026, for a one-month window.

The consensus team advanced the Leios prototype toward the Dijkstra era and finalized the certificate size reduction to 200 bytes. In wallets, Lace 2.0.6 went live, fixing DRep ID message signing for mnemonic wallets and adopting the CIP-129 format. For scaling, Hydra merged its partial fanout feature to eliminate the UTXO limit per head, while Mithril completed circuit key caching for its SNARK library.

The Leios roadmap to solving the blockchain trilemma

Input Output Global
Global IO holding

The Ouroboros Leios architecture solves the blockchain trilemma by decoupling transaction diffusion from sequencing. This setup integrates advanced cryptography, including SNARKs for sublinear correctness verification, Data Availability Sampling (DAS) to verify blocks without full downloads, and Bloom filters to check data relevance. Finally, UTXO sharding distributes state maintenance across the network, enabling true horizontal scalability so that consumer-grade hardware nodes can participate securely without processing the entire blockchain.

The ledger team completed Plutus performance optimizations, while the Smart Contracts team secured funding to extend the "Blaster" verification tool into Aiken. For Leios, treasury funding was approved with 88% support, and a CIP-0164 update reduced certificate size by 40x. Additionally, candidate registration opened for the Constitutional Committee elections.

The consensus team added initial voting capabilities to the Leios prototype and retired the legacy V1 LedgerDB to simplify the API and clear the way for on-disk tables. In wallets, Lace launched on iOS, wrapping up its multi-platform rollout. Additionally, the Mithril team finalized recursive circuit refactoring and off-circuit verification tests for its SNARK prototype.
